About the Course

English Studies 12 is designed to provide students with the foundational skills in reading, writing, and critical thinking required for diverse post-secondary pathways and global citizenship.   • The principles of critical literacy, including the evaluation of bias, reliability, and perspective in both digital and print-based information.
  • Complex literary elements such as symbolism, irony, and narrative structure to interpret deep-seated meanings within poetry, drama, and prose.
  • Collaborative discussion techniques for engaging in respectful dialogue and critiquing the artistic choices made by authors from various historical and cultural backgrounds.

Prerequisite:

  • Prerequisites: Completion of an English 11 course (e.g. English Studies 11, Literary Studies 11, New Media 11)
  • Graduation Status: The mandatory Grade 12 English credit required for graduation
  • Students who take English Studies 12 are expected to have a solid grasp of literary analysis and composition from their Grade 11 English selections. English Studies 12 is a fundamental requirement for admission into virtually all post-secondary programs and professional certifications.
