Mandarin 10 is designed to provide students with the intermediate linguistic skills and cultural awareness necessary to communicate effectively in a variety of social contexts. By the end of this course, you will develop a stronger proficiency in using Pinyin and Chinese characters to exchange information and share opinions. You will be able to recognize the cultural nuances embedded in the language and apply them to enhance your interpersonal communication.

  • How to use more varied vocabulary and sentence patterns to describe daily routines and past experiences with increased detail.
  • The relationship between Chinese cultural values and linguistic expressions, particularly regarding social etiquette and respect.
  • Basic strategies for reading and writing short narrative texts and social media posts using a combination of familiar and new characters.
  • Oral communication techniques for participating in structured conversations and making short presentations on cultural and personal themes.

  • Prerequisites: Completion of Mandarin 9
  • Graduation Status: One of the Grade 10 elective options that contributes to Language credits
  • Students who take Mandarin 10 are expected to have a basic mastery of the phonetic system and foundational characters from previous study. This course is the direct preparation for Mandarin 11 and helps students build toward bilingual proficiency.
