About the Course

Pre-Calculus 10 is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for post-secondary studies in both academic and professional programs. The curriculum focuses on developing algebraic reasoning and geometric properties to build a transition between middle school math and senior secondary pathways. Students will engage in fundamental topics including powers, polynomial factoring, linear relations, and right-triangle trigonometry.

• The principles of trigonometry in right-angled triangles, featuring the calculation of side lengths and angles using sine, cosine, and tangent ratios.
• Algebraic methods for multiplying and factoring polynomial expressions, including the use of expansion strategies and common factoring techniques.
• Linear relations and functions, focusing on the identification of slope, intercepts, and the different forms of linear equations on a coordinate plane.

• Graduation Status: One of the Grade 10 Math options required for graduation
• Students who take this course are expected to have a solid understanding of rational numbers and basic algebra from Mathematics 9. This course is a required stepping stone for students planning to take Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Mathematics 11.
