Pre-Calculus 11

About the Course
Pre-calculus 11 is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for post-secondary studies in programs that require the study of theoretical calculus. The curriculum focuses on building a strong algebraic foundation by exploring quadratic functions, systems of equations, and radical expressions. Students will engage in topics including absolute value, reciprocal functions, and non-right triangle trigonometry to prepare for the complexities of Grade 12 mathematics.
You Will be Able to know:
By the end of this course, you will develop the reasoning skills necessary to analyze and solve high-level algebraic problems through various mathematical lenses. You will be able to apply quadratic and rational models to interpret real-world data and transition smoothly into advanced calculus preparations.
- How to manipulate and simplify radical and rational expressions while solving related equations and identifying non-permissible values.
- The characteristics of quadratic functions and equations, including graphing in vertex form and applying the quadratic formula to find roots.
- Trigonometric relationships in non-right triangles using the Sine Law and Cosine Law, as well as angles in standard position.
- Methods for solving systems of linear-quadratic and quadratic-quadratic equations, along with linear and quadratic inequalities in two variables.
Prerequisite:
- Prerequisites: Completion of Foundations of Mathematics 10 or Pre-Calculus 10
- Graduation Status: One of the Grade 11/12 Math options required for graduation
- Students who take Pre-Calculus 11 are expected to have a solid grasp of algebraic manipulation and coordinate geometry from Grade 10. This course serves as the essential stepping stone for students aiming to take Pre-Calculus 12 and subsequent university math courses.
Who Is This Course For?
- Pre-calculus 11 is an academic course specifically designed for students who plan to pursue post-secondary programs in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).
- It is intended for students who have a strong interest in abstract mathematical concepts and wish to develop the rigorous problem-solving skills needed for higher education.
- This course pathway is ideal for those who have performed well in Grade 10 math and are targeting competitive university entrance requirements.
