About the Course

Pre-calculus 12 is designed to provide students with the mathematical understandings and critical-thinking skills identified for post-secondary studies in programs that require the study of theoretical calculus. The curriculum focuses on exploring the characteristics of families of functions and their transformations to build connections between different classes of functions. Students will engage in advanced topics including polynomial, rational, exponential, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions, as well as geometric sequences and series.

You Will be Able to know:

By the end of this course, you will develop a deep understanding of advanced algebraic and trigonometric reasoning necessary for university-level calculus. You will be able to master the characteristics of various function families and apply mathematical modeling to solve complex, real-world problems.

  • How to analyze and apply transformations to a wide range of functions, including polynomial, rational, exponential, and logarithmic relations.
  • The principles of geometric sequences and series, including the application of sigma notation and the evaluation of infinite geometric series.
  • Advanced trigonometric concepts such as radians, the unit circle, and the use of identities to simplify expressions and solve first- and second-degree equations.
  • Algebraic methods for solving polynomial and rational functions, featuring the factor theorem, remainder theorem, and the identification of graphical asymptotes.

Prerequisite:

  • Prerequisites: Completion of Pre-Calculus 11
  • Graduation Status: One of the Grade 11/12 Math options required for graduation
  • Students who take Pre-Calculus 12 are expected to have a strong foundation of math skills from Pre-Calculus 11. Pre-calculus 12 is a pre-requisite for many programs at the post-secondary level.

Who Is This Course For?

  • Pre-calculus 12 is an academic course specifically designed for students who plan to enroll in post-secondary programs that require the study of theoretical calculus, such as mathematics, sciences, or engineering.
  • It is intended for students who have successfully completed Pre-calculus 11 and wish to build the advanced algebraic and trigonometric reasoning necessary for university-level studies.
  • This course pathway is ideal for those who demonstrate strong mathematical proficiency and are seeking to meet the entrance requirements for competitive higher education fields.
